The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

Book one in The Heroes of Olympus series. This book was such a surprise! I mean I knew I would enjoy it, but I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did. I had the best time reading this. Unlike in Percy Jackson and the Olympians where we are reading from the perspective of Percy Jackson. In this book we follow three new demi gods and three perspectives: Jason, Leo, and Piper. I loved all three of these characters, however my absolute favorite was Leo. I mean how can you not love him. He’s absolutely adorable and so much fun to read from. The adventure we follow was a lot of fun, but also intense. We get the same feeling that we had from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but it’s also more intense and darker, and you can definitely feel that when reading it.

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

After finishing The Lost Hero, I just had to continue on. While I still loved this book, I didn’t love it quite as much as The Lost Hero. I think it may have to do with the first half kind of feeling a bit slower. In this book we’re reunited with Percy(YAY!!!!), as well as introduced to two new characters: Frank and Hazel. I was so excited to be reading from Percy’s perspective again. Oh how I missed him. Frank and Hazel are fun characters. I especially loved Hazel’s backstory. We’re also introduced to Camp Jupiter, the roman camp. Going into this book we already know what’s happened and what’s going on, so we’re waiting for our characters to figure it out, which kind of made the book a bit slower in the beginning for me. About halfway through was when I was absolutely invested. Once the second half it, I couldn’t put the book down. Despite it being a bit slow in the beginning, it’s still a fantastic book.

Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun by Jonny Garza Villa

I decided to read something different after The Son of Neptune(I just needed a small break). I picked up this book and found it was a good choice. This book follows Julian Luna(Jules) and Mat after a long distance relationship begins that starts over Twitter. We follow the ups and the downs of this relatinoship, but also what’s going on in Jules home and school life. The absolute best thing about this book are the characters. The characters and the relationships that they have are amazing. You can truely feel the love that they have for one another, whether it’s friendship, family, or romantic. However, this does not just deal with just romance. It also deals with very intense topics which he mentions in his author note. By the way, that’s another thing I loved. The author begins his book with the authors note addressing what this book deals with and to make sure that you are in the right mind set to read it. And I loved that!
