New Years Book Tag

I saw this over on And On She Reads page and thought why not answer these questions.

Yes, I know New Year’s is over, but hey, it’s still January so it’s considered acceptable right?…Right? Oh well, I still wanted to answer them anyway!!!

How many books are you planning on reading in 2023?

I don’t have a set number of books that I want to read. I always set my GoodReads goal to one book, and I’m always happy with that!

Name five books you didn’t get to read in 2022 but want to make a priority in 2023?

They’re are MANY books that I wanted to read in 2022, but just didn’t. Five of them would be:

  • The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
  • The Red Palace by June Hur
  • Gallant by V.E. Schwab
  • I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston
  • Book of Night by Holly Black

Name a genre you want to read more of in 2023?

I definitely want to read more manga and possibly some middle grade this year! I would to love to know what you would recommend.

Three non-book related goals for 2023?

I don’t have many, but some non related book goals for me are:

  • Journal more. I definitely have fallen behind on journaling and would love to get back into it this year.
  • Be more active
  • I would love to try to learn a new language. I tried duolingo once a while ago, but just never stuck with it. I would like to try again this year and see what comes out it.

What’s a book you’ve had forever and still need to read?

I was looking at my shelves and on the stuck out to me immediately is The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. I’ve had this book on my shelf for SO LONG!!! I need to make this a priority for this year!

Reading Goals || 2017

  1. Read a Sarah J. Maas book. I’ve heard great things about her stories, and I’ve been wanted to check them out. This will be the year that I do that. However, I can’t decide if I want to pick up Throne of Glass, or A Court of Thornes and Roses.
  2. Read more adult novels. When I decide what book to read next, I tend to pick up a Young Adult or New Adult novel. This year, I want to branch out and read more adult novels. If you have any recommendations, I would love to check them out!
  3. Reread my favorite books. I always enjoy rereading, but last year I didn’t reread any of my favorites. I would love to change that this year.
  4. Participate in readathons. Last year, I didn’t  participate in any readathons, and it made me feel like I was missing out. So this year, I want to participate in quite a few readathons. I have to do research  and see what ones I would want to join in.

And that’s really it. Short and simple goals for this year. I also have some blogging goals for this year that I will share soon. What’re some of your reading goals for this year?

Book Review- The Darkest Minds

Title- The Darkest Minds10576365
Author- Alexandra Bracken
Pages- 488
Rating-  4 out of 5
Companion/Sequel/Other- Book 1

Okay so this is the last book that I read in 2015, and I’m happy to say that it was a good one! I tried reading this book about two years ago and I just couldn’t finish it. Here we are two later, and not only did I give it another go and finished it, I ended up really enjoying it. I don’t know what it was this time, but I passed the part where I stopped the first time, and I honestly couldn’t remember why I didn’t finish it before.

I really did enjoy the idea of this story- the camps, the different colors and powers. However, and this is what made me give it a four stars. Even though they talked about the powers, I honestly didn’t feel like they gave us enough explanation about them. By the end of this book, I still didn’t know much about the powers. I mean we got the basics, but that was really it. I just wanted more from that.

I absolutely adoredtumblr_m5xf3iAIYn1rv4pd3o1_250 the characters- Ruby, Liam, Chubs, and Zu. Seriously, they work so well together and are just an all around great team. I couldn’t wait to find out more about these characters, especially Ruby.

Ruby’s story, even though it took awhile to get to it, was heartbreaking. I felt so bad for what happened to her as a kid, and it really makes you see how strong her powers are. I want to say that even though I can see why people say that she can be an unlikable character, I personally loved her. I thought she was fun, strong, and sweet. However, that’s not to say that she’s not flawed because she definitely is.

This book was crazy and it felt like these kids were being chased by EVERYONE! The PSFs agents, skip tracers, bounty hunters, the League. Pretty much everyone and anyone were after them. Especially Ruby and Liam, for what Ruby was, and for what Liam did. Liam was worth a lot of money to people!

I want to talk about the romance for a second. I noticed that atumblr_inline_ntv9pbR6o01sivqgw_500 lot of people seem to love or dislike the romance. Me? I’m on the love side. I absolutely adore Liam and Ruby and definitely think they make a great couple. You can see the connection from the beginning, and it definitely took some time to develop but I loved it. Liam is absolutely amazing and one of my favorite lines from this book came from him:

“Give me one reason why we can’t be together, and I’ll give you a hundred why we can.”

Last but not least, the ending. Oh god, the last few chapters were extremely heartbreaking and it left us on such a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to find out what the heck will happen next.give_it_to_me
