3 Days, 3 Quotes- Day 1

3days3quoteschallenge

I wasn’t tagged by anyone specifically, although I saw this on My Tiny Obsessions page, and I thought it would be fun to do! Especially since I’ve been gone for over a month, I thought this would be fun as a getting-back-into-blogging post! This is the 3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge. I think this may have been around for a bit, but this is my first time seeing it.

THE RULES:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day)
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day! (If you’re reading this, and want to do it, go right ahead! I tag you!)

My first quote is from one of my favorite books: Clockwork Princess!

“Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read.”

#FridayReads [1]

My name is Ally Prince and I’ve always been unlucky in love. When all of my best friends were falling for their soul mates in College, I was left behind. I was Ally, the pretty cousin of superstar quarterback, Romeo Prince. I was Ally, the best friend to the most amazing group of girls I’ve ever known—a title I loved, but one I became tired of ‘just’ being. And I was Ally, the one on which they could all rely.18759355

But to me, I was Ally, the girl with the heart no one had claimed… And I was, Ally, the girl, who underneath it all, was heart-breakingly lonely.

For the past few years I’ve thrown myself into my career as a museum curator. I’m the best of the best, the person every museum wants to hire, so when an opportunity came up to move to Seattle, I jumped at the chance. My cousin and my best friend lived in Seattle and I needed a change.

I wasn’t expecting to meet anyone in the Emerald City. I wasn’t expecting to work closely with the reclusive new sculptor my all-important gallery design was centered around. And I certainly wasn’t expecting to fall for him… heart-stopping, epic, life-changing love…
My real life fairytale come true.

But, like in every fairytale, there’s a villain, a dark and tortured soul… I just didn’t know that the villain and the hero in my story would end up being one and the same.

So this weekend I’ll be reading Sweet Hope by Tillie Cole. I’m so excited to be reading this story, and continuing on in this series. I became addicted to Tillie Cole books last summer and every since then, I’ve been making my way through her stories. This is now my 7th book by her, and I’m so excited to read about this characters story!

We first meet Ally is the first book in this series Sweet Home. Every since then, she has been a favorite of mine and I’ve been waiting to dive into her life! I’m not that far into this story yet, but I’m loving it so far!

Why I Love: How to Get Away With Murder

So I finally binged watched How to Get Away With Murder this month, and I need to talk about it! I want to mention that it took me FOREVER to finally give this show a chance, and I have a reason for that. Shonda Rhimes. When I heard that this was another one of her shows I was a bit hesitant. I watched Grey’s Anatomy and for the first 6 seasons or so I was really enjoying it. Then afterward it kind of felt redundant and nothing was keeping me interested anymore. I then tried Scandal, and I just couldn’t get into that show at all. Then came HTGAWM, another show by her and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch it or not. So it took me some time, and convincing from my friends and some family members, but I finally watched it and…how-to-get-away-with-murder-cast

I LOVE THIS SHOW! Right from the beginning this show draws you in and hooks you. It keeps you invested throughout the entire season! I’m glad I waited to watch it because I was able to binge watch the whole first season on Netflix and it made for a better viewing experience in my opinion. As I’m writing this I’m all caught up with Season 2 of HTGAWM, so I thought I would share some of the reasons why I love this show!

  1. The Characters! This show has a wide range of characters within it, varying from different races, to sexual orientations! It’s so great to see a show that has such a vast group of characters. From a white guy, a black man and woman, a latina woman, and a gay man, all being taught by a POWERFUL, black, bi-sexual woman, and it’s absolutely amazing to watch!
  2. The Scenes! This show has some TV changing moments. I love that the ranigif_original-grid-image-4759-1413559784-181elationship between Connor and Oliver is portrayed the same way a straight relationship is on TV. Now, yes they’re more same sex relationships on TV nowadays, but HTGAWM is not afraid to show it all. Right in the pilot episode there’s a steamy hookup between them and we see a lot throughout the season! Probably the most groundbreaking scene was when Annalise, played by Viola Davis, took off her wig and all her makeup at the end of the episode showing her natural hair and skin. That is something that I’ve never seen done on tv before and it was amazing to watch!
  3. Flashbacks/Flashforwards! This show is known for it, and I absolutely love it! It makes it a lot of fun to see what’s going to happen and to try to guess who did what and the reasons why. What I love the most is that we don’t have to wait the entire season to find out who and why. It’s usually revealed about halfway through and the rest of the season deals with the aftermath of it. I definitely think it’s one of the things that keeps people invested.8331744

Overall, this show is addicting. Once you start, you won’t be able to stop. If you haven’t watched this show yet, I recommend starting it when you have a few days free!

Why is my GoodReads Challenge 1?

logo-442d9afca63dc7e8b9d988f811fb9cbdSo the question is: Why is my Goodreads Challenge only 1 book?

Before I set my challenge to 1 book, I always found myself with this need to complete my Goodreads challenge, and if I didn’t I would feel kind of bad abtumblr_m4jcnoS2og1r573sro1_500out it. Which shouldn’t be the case right? I shouldn’t feel bad about not reading a certain number of books. Reading anything at all is great! Of course at this time, I believe it was 2012, I was new to Goodreads. I felt as though I HAD to complete it, and seeing everyone else with there goals just added to that feeling. I also noticed that I wasn’t picking up books that I wanted to read, but more so books that I thought would be quick, and help me reach my goal! By doing that, I was missing out on other amazing books.

Eventually, I saw a friend of mine on Goodreads set her goal as 1, with her reasoning and all I could think about was how PERFECT oh-yeah-gif-buffy-the-vampirethat would be for me. So in 2014 I set my goal for 1 book and ended up reading 29 books that year. It may not seem like a lot, but I felt amazing at the end of the year. I had no stress, no pressure, and I read books that I WANTED to read. When 2015 came along, my goal again was 1 book and I managed to read 74. It felt great!

So every year since then my goal has been to read 1 book. It’s perfect for me because I pick up books that sound fun, books that I want to read. Now, I love to do challenges because I simply have fun with them. If I complete them great. If not, then oh well. It’s all about the fun!heh_thumbs_up_nph.gif

And now I would love to hear from you guys! Are you participating in the Goodreads Challenge? What is your goal? Do you feel pressure to complete it?

Book Discussion- Life and Death

Title- Life and DeathLifeanddeathtwilightreimagined
Author- Stephenie Meyer
Pages- 389
Rating-  4 out of 5
Companion/Sequel/Other- Twilight Reimagined!

This was my first read of 2016, and I have to say, I quite enjoyed it! This story brought me back into the world of Twilight, which I haven’t been in awhile! It definitely made me want to reread the original as well, so I’m thinking I may do a reread of the saga this year.

This story follows the same story as Twilight, however with some changes in the scenes, and dialogue to work with the gender swap! It does take some time to get adjusted to these characters. I admit that I definitely had a hard time picturing Beau and Edthye because I was so use to the original characters. However, once you’re able to do that you do get to enjoy these characters. My favorite was Archie, who is this books Alice!

The ending! I really enjoyed the ending of this book! It was fun to see how Twilight could have ended if it was just a stangiphydalone book. I’m glad I got to see this alternate ending, however I do feel as though it was rushed. I do prefer the original ending for Twilight. This ending also made me a bit depressed. Because of Beau changing, he had to fake his own death and he never got to apologize for what he said to Charlie before he left, and you can tell how he regrets that. It was upsetting, and I’m glad that wasn’t the original ending!

I honestly believe people had too high expectations, and were expecting a bit much from this story. Going into this I expected a fun, enjoyable, slightly different story because of the gender swap, and that’s whatumblr_n0pwfyPVHH1t77ydgo1_500t I got. I honestly believe because I wasn’t expecting a lot, I enjoyed it more than others.

You have to enjoy this story for what it is. A fun, enjoyable story that Stephenie wrote for the fans. Also for those saying that this was published for just a cash grab, I have to disagree. A tenth anniversary edition would have been published anyway, this was just something fun that she though the fans would enjoy. Enjoy it for what it is, and I think you’ll have fun with this story!

Book Review- The Darkest Minds

Title- The Darkest Minds10576365
Author- Alexandra Bracken
Pages- 488
Rating-  4 out of 5
Companion/Sequel/Other- Book 1

Okay so this is the last book that I read in 2015, and I’m happy to say that it was a good one! I tried reading this book about two years ago and I just couldn’t finish it. Here we are two later, and not only did I give it another go and finished it, I ended up really enjoying it. I don’t know what it was this time, but I passed the part where I stopped the first time, and I honestly couldn’t remember why I didn’t finish it before.

I really did enjoy the idea of this story- the camps, the different colors and powers. However, and this is what made me give it a four stars. Even though they talked about the powers, I honestly didn’t feel like they gave us enough explanation about them. By the end of this book, I still didn’t know much about the powers. I mean we got the basics, but that was really it. I just wanted more from that.

I absolutely adoredtumblr_m5xf3iAIYn1rv4pd3o1_250 the characters- Ruby, Liam, Chubs, and Zu. Seriously, they work so well together and are just an all around great team. I couldn’t wait to find out more about these characters, especially Ruby.

Ruby’s story, even though it took awhile to get to it, was heartbreaking. I felt so bad for what happened to her as a kid, and it really makes you see how strong her powers are. I want to say that even though I can see why people say that she can be an unlikable character, I personally loved her. I thought she was fun, strong, and sweet. However, that’s not to say that she’s not flawed because she definitely is.

This book was crazy and it felt like these kids were being chased by EVERYONE! The PSFs agents, skip tracers, bounty hunters, the League. Pretty much everyone and anyone were after them. Especially Ruby and Liam, for what Ruby was, and for what Liam did. Liam was worth a lot of money to people!

I want to talk about the romance for a second. I noticed that atumblr_inline_ntv9pbR6o01sivqgw_500 lot of people seem to love or dislike the romance. Me? I’m on the love side. I absolutely adore Liam and Ruby and definitely think they make a great couple. You can see the connection from the beginning, and it definitely took some time to develop but I loved it. Liam is absolutely amazing and one of my favorite lines from this book came from him:

“Give me one reason why we can’t be together, and I’ll give you a hundred why we can.”

Last but not least, the ending. Oh god, the last few chapters were extremely heartbreaking and it left us on such a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to find out what the heck will happen next.give_it_to_me

2016 Reading Challenges

Happy-New-Year-2016-ImagesI always find reading challenges to be fun. Mainly because I never put pressure on myself to finish them. If I do finish them, great, and if I don’t then that’s fine. I normally choose a few challenges to do throughout the year for fun. This year I have picked 4 challenges.

  1. Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge: I choose this challenge because I don’t read much fantasy. It’s fof-button-2016something that I feel like I’m missing out on. I’m definitely considered a “fantasy newbie” when it comes to this genre. I missed out on a lot of series because this genre always intimidates me.
  2. 2016 Discussion Challenge: I love talking about books, but I never do discussion 2016-Discussion-Challengeposts, which is disappointing. So I decided that I want to do more of those! If you have any recommendations on topics, let me know! I’m making a list.
  3. Popsugar’s Ultimate Reading Challenge: This challenge I’m still on the fence about. I’ve been seeing this around, and I think I’m going to try it and just have fun with this one. If I read booksROCK that fit the categories than great, if not, oh well!
  4. #RockMyTBR Challenge: This one just seems like a lot of fun, and one that I’m excited to participate in!

So those are the challenges that I’m going to attempt and just have fun with. I plan on using books for multiple challenges, and possibly doubling up with the Popsugar Challenge. What reading challenges are you participating in?
