Bookish Smash or Pass

I came across this fun tag created by Becky over at Becky’s Book Blog and found it to be a lot of fun!

Bookish Tropes

SMASH! I love a good trope(for the most part). Enemies to lover, grumpy/sunshine, age gap, chosen ones…I eat it up!

Alternating POV

Smash. This is something that I’ve really come to love over the years! When we get to see the perspective from other characters. Most of the times it’s fascinating!

Ambigious Endings

PASS!!! Nope. Overall, ambigious endings are a no go for me. I like my stories wrapped up nicely. I don’t want to spend all that time investing in a story for me to have to figure out what the hell happens in the end. Like…why? Just tell me.

Non/Fiction

Another Pass. Obviously there is nothing wrong with non ficiton. It’s just definintely not something that I choose to pick up. The number of non ficiton books that I have read are very very slim.

Historical Setting

Oh this is a hard one because I don’t mind a good historical setting, but it’s definiitely not something that I gravitate towards. I may have to say PASS(AHHHH)

Morally Grey characters

Smash. I mean these type of characters are just so interesting to read about!

First Person POV

Smash. I don’t really have any explanations for this. I just like it!

Audiobooks

HARD SMASH!!! Especially these last couple of years. It’s interesting because years ago it would’ve been a pass. However, over the years I’ve become addicted to audiobooks. They’ve definitely become a game changer for me!

Re-reading

Smash. I absolutley love re-reading books and think people should do it more. It’s great for when you just want to read a story you’re familiar with, or maybe you need something to get you out of a reading slump. Re-reading a favorite book could be the way to go!

Classic novels

Pass. Absolutey nothing wrong with classics, but like with non fiction it’s just not something that I pick up. Although I do have a couple classics on my tbr that I want to check out!

Annotating

SMASH!!!. I love annotating books, especially books that I feel like I will love. Usually when I annotate though, it’s me just writing my thoughts/commentary to the characters and/or what’s happening in the story. So sometimes it’s like I’m having a conversation with them and if they do something idiotic, I’ll make a comment saying “WHYY???” or “DON”T DO IT!!!”. Just ridiculous things like that, but it’s fun to look back on!

Cracking Book Spines

SMASH!!! I’m all for cracking book spines! DO IT!!!

Smut

Smash. I think a good smut scene is great!!!

Character Driven Books

Smash! YES! We need amazing characters! So I’m absolutely here for the character driven books!

Past/Present Split Timeline

I think I’ll have to go with pass. I mean I do enjoy them, but it’s not something I’ll jump for!

Heavy World Building

Probably another pass for me. I have a hard time focusing if it’s a lot of world building. I mean if it’s not info dumpy than maybe, but honestly, heavy worlding books are not ones I’m reaching for.

And that’s it for the questions! This was a lot fo fun to answer! What would your answers be?

oh my gosh YES enemies to lovers and grumpyxsunshine shall FOREVER REMAIN THE BEST EVER TROPES. except also found family IS FABULOUSNESS. ALSO THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN TO READ I LOVE YOUR POSTS!!!!! also everything you said anout ambiguous endings – I AGREE 100000% theyre so annoying sometimes?? OK MORE LIKE ALMOST ALWAYS ACTUALLY. also omg morally grey characters ARE EVERYTHING I LIVE FOR IN A BOOK ALRIGHT 😩 your annotations sound so cool though I’D LOVE TO SEE PICTURES?? i dont usually annotate UNLESS i’m reading ebooks because SHHHH DONT TELL but searching for pencils and then doing all the hardwork of annotating TAKES AWAY FROM THE FUN OF READING A PHYSICAL BOOK FOR ME? BUT ALSO. DID I MENTION I LOVE THIIISSS????

OMG it’s an absolute YASSS for the found family trope! It’s a top tier one!!!
I do agree annotating does take away some of the fun because you have to stop and write and it somewhat takes you out of the story a bit. It also makes reading a bit longer. That’s why I don’t annotate every book!
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by πŸ™‚
